E-mail your questions to the groomer and they will be posted here.
It might seem that if all the groomer is going to do is shave the mats off, it should be cheaper than a regular grooming. Unfortunately, the opposite is true. When your pet is matted, it is impossible for the groomer to give your pet a bath, dry and comb him out before the actual grooming. The matted hair can never be really clean and can't be dried. Therefore, the pet has to be shaved while dirty. Dirty hair dulls clipper blades very quickly, and they are expensive to buy and costly to sharpen. Clippers tend to bog down on dirty hair and overheat, which causes excessive wear on the equipment. Last, but not least, the pet is uncomfortable, and therefore less cooperative, adding to the time and attention of your groomer. It is very difficult to tell the difference between matted hair and skin, which requires your groomer to take extra time and pay special attention to the grooming process so that your pet isn't injured. All of these things add up to the fact that if your dog takes more than the normal amount of time and materials for grooming your groomer will have to charge more. |
